Problem: Where should
I look when I reach a dead end?
Genelines helps by showing
who was alive when a particular historical event occurred, allowing
the researcher to focus on records specific to that event, in this
case the American Revolution. Note that the husband, Simeon Freeman,
died during the Revolutionary War. Was he a patriot? Did his spouse
receive a military pension?
It is also clear from this chart that
some children were probably of military age. Would they be found
in military muster rolls? This researcher turned to privateer bounty
records and discovered some fascinating clues of privateering raids
and local militia service that involved this family and neighbors
on both sides of the border.
